Franjo Kajfež (1936 – 2004), he was a doctor of chemical sciences, and the author of 88 patents and 150 scientific papers. He was a maker of the tablet Valium, medicine which today is known throughout the world, in our country famous as Apaurin (a Paure – against fear). He was a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, among other things, the founder of the production technology of vitamin C. Plants have always occupied and inspired his life, and he was especially interested in how to abstract a chemical version of the drug substance. Also was the first Croatian Minister of Economy in period 1992-1993. President of Republic of Croatia Franjo Tuđman honoured him with several medals for his precious work.
