Goran Ivanišević

Goran Ivanišević (born 13 September, 1971) is a retired Croatian professional tennis player. He is the only person to win the men’s singles title at Wimbledon as a wildcard. He achieved this in 2001, having previously been runner-up at the championships in 1992, 1994 and 1998. His career-high singles ranking was World No. 2 (behind Pete Sampras) in 1994. He was a member of the Croatian tennis team in winning the Davis Cup 2005. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992, Croatia for the first time independently performed, and Ivanišević on this occasion won two medals for his country, which was at the time after independence a huge motivation and encouragement. In 1992 he was awarded with the State Award for Sport “Franjo Bučar”, and five times he won the title of Athlete of the Year by Sports News.
